Darren Lynn Bousman was contacted by James Wan and Leigh Whannell after unsuccessfully shopping around his screenplay for a movie called The Desperate. Wan and Whannell help him convert it into Saw 2 and hired him direct the film, which continued for the next two installments of the Saw series as well.
