Locked away in his shop, a wig-maker watches and records in his diary as Medieval London dies of the plaque. But can he resist the red locks of the girl dying from the plague in the tavern across the street from him?
Full of brooding darkness and haunting images, The Periwig-Maker was directed by Steffen Schäffler, based on the book A Journal of the Plague Year by Daniel Defoe. The screenplay was written by Annette Schäffler and Steffen Schäffler. The somber voice of the periwig-maker is Kenneth Branagh. Released in 1999, The Periwig-Maker was nominated for an Academy Award, Best Short Film, in 2000.
